One of the most challenging and extremely rewarding positions in Rotary is that of District Governor.  But with a district with the finest Rotary Clubs in all of Rotary and approximately 2,500 Rotarians that astound you year in and year out with their extraordinary accomplishments, it is also one of the most, if not the most, rewarding Rotary positions you will ever hold.  It is a position that I highly recommend you pursue.
 
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT IF SELECTED TO BE THE 2026-2027 DISTRICT GOVERNOR? 
  • 6 months as District Governor Nominee Designate
  • One year as District Governor Nominee
  • One year as District Governor Elect
  • One year as 2026-2027 District Governor
  • One year as Immediate Past District Governor
SCHEDULE:
  • District Governor Interest Meeting will be November 2, 2023 at 7pm-8:30pm at Fratelli's, 1330 Wirt Road, Houston, TX 77055
  • Applications will be accepted October 1, 2023 - November 30, 2023
  • Applicants must be nominated by their Rotary Club
  • The Club and Nominee must be in good standing with District 5890 and Rotary International
  • Mandatory in-person Interviews will be Sunday, December 17, 2023 (more details coming soon.) 
  • Each applicant will be assigned a specific time for their interview.
  • Term of Office of District Governor:  2026-2027
 
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

  • All completed and signed applications must be mailed to Chair of the District Governor Nominating Committee: Todd Breton at todd.a.breton@gmail.com.
  • Though not required, it is highly recommended that you also include your 2-page personal resume with your application to the Committee. 
  • Applicants should review the District Resolutions regarding the selection process which defines good standing for qualification purposes and the application.   
  • It is recommended that the Rotary Manual of Procedure be reviewed regarding the qualifications and duties of the position in Article 16 of the RI Bylaws.
  • Please note that applicants may and are encouraged to discuss the position of DG and the interview process with PDG’s and others in Rotary that can provide them with valuable insight into the position, its duties, time requirements and responsibilities. Applicants may discuss their application with their club members and officers in order to gain their club’s support...But in doing so, applicants must be careful not to campaign for the position of governor.
  • Though not required, it is highly recommended that you include a Rotary resume along with your application.  
  • Please see the District Governor application form for your reference and use.
  • Please note that the applicant and the applicant’s Club Secretary must both sign and date the application. 
  • If you’re not sure what the qualifications are for District Governor, please see them listed below.  Only qualified applicants will be allowed to interview. 
  • All applicants must attend an in person interview before the Nominating Committee. 
  • The in-person interviews will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2023 (more details coming soon)
  • Each applicant will be assigned a designated time for their respective interview.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR DISTRICT GOVERNOR:
At the time of selection, a governor-nominee-designate must:
  1. Be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district (RIB 16.010.a.)
  2. Definition of good standing: The Rotarian must be current on dues to their club and to RI (will be verified by the committee chair); the nominating club must also be current on dues. If the Rotarian transferred clubs in the past year, they must also have left that club in good standing.
  3. Have served as club president for a full term or as charter president for at least six months (RIB 16.010.b)
  4. Demonstrate willingness, commitment, and ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a governor in section 16.030 (16.010.c)
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the qualifications, duties, and responsibilities of governor as prescribed in the RI Bylaws (RIB 16.010.d) and
  6. Submit to RI a statement that the Rotarian understands those qualifications, duties and responsibilities, is qualified for the office of governor, and is willing and able to assume and faithfully perform those duties and responsibilities (RIB 16.010.e).
